The Lianyang Residential Area is adjacent to Shanghai’s Century Park and serves the Lujiazui Financial and Commercial Zone of the Pudong New District. The ShuiqingMuhua Development is part of the Lianyang Residential Area and consists of a large single block, some 160,000 square meters in area.
The development was planned as an integrated and orderly community, an essential consideration at this scale. In the overall sense, this consists of a unified and organized spatial and volumetric environment conducive to “place-making” and the development of a sense of community.
The principal road system consists of a large oval that is reinforced by the high-rise buildings arranged along its perimeter. The north-south axis of the oval is slightly deflected, shifting the southern building orientations more toward Century Park, providing more views of this beautiful scenery for more residents. At the intersection of the oval’s two axes has been placed the central landscape area, a venue for residents to meet and gather for community activities. Where these axes intersect with the perimeter city road, vehicular and pedestrian access has been provided.
The landscape surrounding the central area consists of a variety of landscape elements that shape the special characteristics of several areas within the development, while a comprehensive waterscape system interlinks all the landscape areas together.
