The exhibition halls of the World Folk Art Expo City in Gui’an New District have adopted a compact, centralized layout in order to preserve more of the surrounding natural landscape.
The China Expo Pavilion abstracts the typical architectural elements of Guizhou and reconfigures them into a new characteristic building. The visitor route is perpendicular to the landscape, and a courtyard has been added at its center to serve as an outdoor exhibition area. The building image is dignified, using modern materials and techniques to create a classic impression.
The International Pavilion was given a modern and uncomplicated style. Links to the exterior courtyard draw the surrounding landscape into the interior and allow for outdoor exhibitions that invite public participation.
The Industrial Relics Pavilion follows the conservation principles of restoring historic structures to their original state as much as practicable, and of not making major irreversible changes to any original elements. Lightweight steel frames have been added to create links between the buildings and to generate a sense of enclosure to the plaza space.
