Jiading New City plays an important role within metropolitan Shanghai. The 180 square kilometer planning area borders Jiading Old City to the north, Anting Automobile City to the southwest, Nanxiang Ancient Town to the south, and the Shanghai F1 circuit to the west.
The overall planning first recognizes the industrial structure of Jiading and the development trends of Shanghai and surrounding cities. It creates an overall spatial and functional design by first building upon the urban development strategy. The planning of the main area focuses on current terrain features, the traffic structure, the multiple coexisting traffic modes and the connection with the rail transit and highway.
According to the research results of the environmental carrying capacity, and through rational land use planning and development scale controls, a sustainable new city with reasonable functions that conveys a strong modern impression could be built.
