The campus of the Tongling School of Beijing Normal University includes the existing Senior High School, and the soon to be constructed Junior High School, Primary School and Kindergarten. The design has focused on the opportunity for the newly-built schools and the kindergarten to integrate with the facility resources of Tongling School of Beijing Normal University, to strengthen the connections and resource sharing between the different campuses, and to optimize pedestrian flow in order to facilitate the administration of the entire campus.
Taking inspiration from the architectural layout of traditional Anhui Academy, the design endeavors to be a characteristic campus that fits the local culture. The design of the kindergarten opens up a relationship with the urban roads by enclosing the space. The large courtyard in the middle creates numerous places for children to play. By way of the ramp to the activity platform on the roof, children can fully enjoy the sunshine. At the same time, many places have been made into semi-covered open spaces for children to play on rainy days. The plan has created a ramp space leading to a roof activity platform, a second-floor activity garden, and flexible spaces with rich colors, while also providing children with wind and rain activity spaces, in order to maximize the outdoor fun of the kindergarten.
